Album Review | YG – My Krazy Life

This project came out in March last year. I ain’t really lookin’ forward to this project tbh. I listened to his mixtape Just Re’d Up 2. I ain’t liked it. There were some dope songs, but most of the shit sounded generic af to me. I’m really not expecting much from this project, mostly because of DJ Mustard. I like YG as a rapper, but I’m so tired of DJ Mustard. This nigga’s production is so fucking generic to me. Every fucking song he makes sounds the same. I really don’t wanna hear a whole album of DJ Mustard beats. Everybody been sayin’ this shit was dope. Hopefully they ain’t lyin’. Also My Krazy Life is a terrible name for the album. My top comment on an article about this project said “my krazy life sounds like a photo album that a 16 year old white girl would make on facebook.” I still believe in this statement. smcg17 replied to me and said “you sound like a faggot.”

Track 1: Mama Speech Intro

That was just a pointless intro with his mama yellin’ right in my fuckin’ ear. It’s literally only 15 seconds long. It should’ve just been at the beginning of the first song. Not gonna give this a rating.

Track 2: BPT (Prod. DJ Mustard)

Of course the first words YG says on his album are “Nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga! Nigga!” That’s not good. That’s bad. He is exactly the type of person that ignorant/racist white people think of when they think of black people. At least he’s being himself. This hook is actually dope af. This shit is HARD! You gotta be in the right mood for it tho. If you just got fired from your job at a club or something you ain’t gonna wanna hear this song. This production is really good for DJ Mustard. Average. YG’s flow is dope af on this. Actually this production is pretty dope. I fuck with this shit. It ends kind of abruptly and goes right into the next song. Kinda jarring. Not a big deal tho. 4/5

Track 3: I Just Wanna Party Feat. ScHoolboy Q & Jay Rock (Prod. DJ Mustard)

This is another generic, boring DJ Mustard beat. If you’ve heard one DJ Mustard beat you’ve heard them all. This hook is dope af. “I’ll beat the fuck out of a nigga!” YG flow isn’t bad. ScHoolboy Q sounds like YG. His voice ain’t usually that high. He doesn’t sound bad tho. His verse was dope. Holy fuck, Jay Rock fucking destroyed that verse. He sounded like a fucking monster on that shit. As soon as he said “It’s ROCK!” I knew he was about to go the fuck off. That shit was dope af. I fuck with this. This is dope af. 5/5

Track 4: Left, Right Feat. DJ Mustard (Prod. DJ Mustard)

Left Right

This beat is boring. The hook’s alright. Generic ass club song. It’s alright. All DJ Mustard do is yell and give a weak ass bridge. 3/5

Track 5: Bicken Back, Bein’ Bool (Prod. DJ Mustard)

This beat sounds exactly the same as the last one. The hook is wack. It’s boring. This shit sounds like every other song he’s ever done. I ain’t feelin’ this shit. He better switch things up soon or ima get real bored. The skit at the end was binda bool. Feel like I’m listening to a movie. 2/5

Track 6: Meet The Flockers Feat. Tee Cee (Prod. Mike Free)

Thank God it ain’t DJ Mustard on this beat again. I don’t know who the fuck Tee Cee is. This beat sounds like a DJ Mustard beat… It ain’t that bad tho. This is definitely a more interesting song than the last two. He’s giving instructions on breaking into somebody house. That’s cool. I guess. This hook is actually dope. Tee Cee’s verse wasn’t bad. He ends the song saying “Deez-Lo my nigga, my nigga / Hit my first lick pass with my niggas.” It flows really well into the next song, My Nigga. I fuck with this. 4/5

Track 7: My Nigga Feat. Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan (Prod. DJ Mustard & Mike Free)

My Nigga

This song is just fucking awful. I actually kinda liked it until it became every white person’s favorite song. The beat’s cool. The hook has an alright melody. I hate the lyrics. Everybody gotta average flow on this track. Rich Homie Quan is just fucking terrible. I hate this song so much. 1/5

Track 8: Do It To Ya Feat. TeeFLii (Prod. DJ Mustard & C-Ballin’)

This beat is really good for DJ Mustard. It actually sounds different from everything else he’s done. TeeFLii’s hook isn’t that good. Not feelin’ the hook. This is just TeeFLii & YG braggin’ about how good they are at having sex. “Nobody beat the pussay up like me.” He’s just tryna holla at some chick. Boring song. Not feelin’ it. At least DJ Mustard did something different. I really didn’t need to hear YG fuckin’ some ho at the end of this song tho. Why the fuck would anyone wanna hear that? I don’t wanna hear this nigga huffin’ & puffin’ with some chick. That’s not cool, YG. Don’t do that again. 2/5

Track 9: Me & My Bitch Feat. Tory Lanez (Prod. B Wheezy & Terrace Martin)

I fuck with Tory Lanez. I like him better as a rapper than a singer tho. This beat isn’t that good. At least it’s different. YG’s tryna make a sad song about how his “bitch” was cheatin’ on him, even though he was forcing us to listen to him fuck some random chick one song ago. Tory Lanez is the best part of this song. He shoulda got a verse. 3/5

Track 10: Who Do You Love Feat. Drake (Prod. DJ Mustard)

I thought this song had Game on it. I guess that was a remix. The beat’s boring as FUCK. Fuck DJ Mustard. I’m so tired of this nigga. YG got a average flow. He ain’t sayin’ shit. Boring ass hook. Drake verse wasn’t bad. It wasn’t good tho. He had a nice flow, but he wasn’t sayin’ shit. Game shoulda been on the original. I fuck with that nigga. It’s not a terrible track. The beat & hook are just boring af. Really the best part of this song is Drake’s flow. 3/5

Track 11: Really Be (Smokin’ N Drinkin’) Feat. Kendrick Lamar (Prod. Ty$, Chordz & Terrace Martin)

The first line in this song says “I woke up this morning. I had a boner.” That’s too much, my nigga. I ain’t need to know that. He talkin’ about how tough his life was when he was still poor. That’s cool. The beat’s a little too happy for this song. It’s not that bad tho. Not really feelin’ this hook. It’s alright. Not terrible. Nothing special. Kendrick killed it. His flow is dope af. Kendrick definitely stole the show. He has a way better flow & delivery than YG. I fuck with this. 4/5

Track 12: 1 AM (Prod. Metro Boomin’)

I fuck with Metro Boomin’. That nigga know how to make a beat. The last track flowed really well into this one. The transitions on this album are pretty good. This beat is dope af. This is the best beat on the whole project so far. It sound real dark. His flow is cool. His delivery is dope. This hook is dope. This is actually dope af. I fuck with this shit. 5/5

Track 13: Thank God Interlude (Big TC Feat. RJ)

This dude on the first verse can sing. The sound quality of this song isn’t very good at all… Oh God. This second verse is awful. Not feelin’ this. 2/5

Track 14: Sorry Mama Feat. Ty$ (Prod. Terrace Martin & DJ Mustard)

This is actually really dope. If you couldn’t tell from the title, this song is dedicated to his mama. This is the third dedication to someones mama that I’ve reviewed this year. I fuck with this. The beat is dope af. Not feelin’ that hook tho. Coulda did without that. I like YG’s parts tho. He sounds like he really cares about this topic. I fuck with this. 4/5

Final Thoughts:

That wasn’t that bad, but it definitely coulda been better. Half of this shit coulda been cut out. Most of it sounded the same. YG isn’t that great of a rapper, but he’s tolerable. The beats on this project are way too similar. DJ Mustard needs to sit the fuck down. He’s just selling people the same beat. Anyone could make a DJ Mustard beat. Just loop a simple piano pattern and add the generic “AY!” club chant. Hell, that nigga Nic Nac already does it all the time. If you want dope bars you ain’t finna like this shit. Except for the TDE features. If you want some shit to throw on at a party or in a strip club then this is what you’re looking for. Except that last track. That ain’t gonna work at a strip club. The worst part of this album is the production. As individual songs the production ain’t that bad, but if you listen to the whole album this shit gets so repetitive after the first 3 tracks. If you liked any of YG’s mixtapes you’ll like this because it’s honestly the same shit. The only difference between this album and his mixtapes is that this is a concept album. I liked a few tracks, but most of these songs were deleted.
