Mixtape Review | Nipsey Hussle – Mailbox Money

This mixtape came out on the last day of 2014. I always thought Nipsey Hussle was cool, but he really ain’t better than most of these niggas. On a scale of one to 10, he’s probably a 6.5 or a 7. Ilovemakkonen would be a 1. Kendrick Lamar would be a 10. He raps about the same shit everyone else raps about. He just does it a little better than a lot of rappers. His last project was a mixtape called Crenshaw. You could go on Datpiff and download it for free like you do with every other mixtape or you could buy it for 100 dollars. What the fuck? Why? The shit wasn’t that good… Well, he did the same shit with this mixtape, except it’s 1000 dollas instead of 100. What the fuck??? Oh fuck no. This shit better be dope af. I can’t believe normal people will just throw money away like that. It’s Nipsey Hussle. He ain’t that good. I like his music, but he really ain’t that good. I don’t get why everyone thinks he’s so amazing. Click here to listen to this mixtape.

Track 1: Killa (Prod. Wizzo & Ralo)

This beat is dope af. I just got some Skullcandy Crusher headphones and they’re fucking crazy. This hook is dope af too. His flow is nothing special. He’s rappin’ about the same shit everyone else does. “I pull up in that black on black, smoking killa” The way the beat just goes to piano at the end is dope af. He really ain’t saying shit, but sonically this song is dope af. I fuck with this. 5/5

Track 2: 1 Hunnit A Show Feat. Rick Ross (Prod. Hit-Boy)

1 Hunnit A Show

This beat is dope. The hook is average. He has a real smooth flow on this track. Still talkin’ about money and hoes. Rick Ross has an average flow. His verse is bad. Average for him. He rhymes the word “smile” with “now.”  I like the way the beat switches up at the end. I fuck with this. 4/5

Track 3: Status Symbol Feat. Buddy (Prod. Drew Byrd)

I fuck with Buddy. He had a pretty dope mixtape that came out about a year ago. Nipsey gotta average flow. The hook from Buddy is dope af. Oh God. Coulda did without that “br-br-br-brap bump bump” line from Nipsey… The beat is dope af. Nipsey actually had a really good last verse. I fuck with this. This is dope af. 5/5

Track 4: That’s How I Knew (Prod. Kicken J & SAP)

The hook kinda sucks. He’s just repeating the song title. It lasts way too long and gets annoying after a while. The beat is actually dope af. Nipsey did his thing, but DJ Drama yelling at the beginning kinda made it sound cheap. This song has kind of a dark sounding beat. I don’t know if I like how the beat fades into that long ass outro. DJs don’t usually bother me, but I feel like it kinda took away from this song. 3/5

Track 5: Count Up That Loot (Prod. Drew Byrd)

Count Up That Loot

This beat is alright. The hook’s boring. His flow is boring. This is the kinda song that needs a feature to keep things interesting. It just gets boring after the first minute. His verses ain’t that bad, but nothing in this song is that interesting. It’s alright. 3/5

Track 6: Only A Case Feat. G.I. Joe & Conrad (Prod. Scoop DeVille)

G.I. Joe? Are you even allowed to have that as your stage name? I’m tired of all these rappers just using random ass names. Conrad isn’t specific enough. If someone’s trying to listen to your music and they search Conrad in google, you aren’t gonna pop up. Mac Miller has a song with a rapper named Bill. That’s his whole stage name. Bill. I shouldn’t even have to say why that’s bad. Not really feelin’ this beat. It’s boring. Sounds like a DJ Mustard beat. Nipsey’s verse was average. Not really feelin’ the hook. He’s talkin’ about a hole in your face or something. I don’t know what the fuck he’s talkin’ about. G.I. Joe actually had a nice flow. I didn’t hear anything from Conrad. He musta been the guy with autotune in the background. This is a pretty generic song. Not feelin’ it. 2/5

Track 7: Where Yo Money At Feat. Pacman (Prod. DJ Mustard)

Where Yo Money At

Pacman? Are you even allowed to have that as your stage name? This is a DJ Mustard beat. It’s boring af. I fuck with the hook. This is so fucking boring. He just talkin’ about the same shit. This isn’t good. Not feelin’ it. 2/5

Track 8: Between Us Feat. K. Camp (Prod. THC)

Between Us

This hook isn’t bad. The beat’s cool. This song is about girls and money. Same shit. Not feelin’ it. He’s “focused on cash” and I don’t give a shit. 2/5

Track 9: Real Nigga Moves Feat. Dom Kennedy (Prod. Mike & Keys, Rance & Uncle Dave)

This beat is fucking dope af. Damn. Nipsey got an average flow. The hook from Dom Kennedy could use some work… It ain’t terrible tho. Dom Kennedy sounds good on a beat and everything, but I could never get into his songs. They’re all boring af to me. I liked his verse on this song. The beat is fucking crazy and neither of them had wack verses. The hook wasn’t very good, but it wasn’t that bad. This is dope. I fuck with this. 4/5

Track 10: Stay Loyal Feat. J. Stone (Prod. THC & Rance)

This beat is average. Nipsey’s flow is very slightly better than usual on this song. I fuck with this hook. J. Stone’s verse was average. It was pretty boring tbh… This song is too long. There’s this long ass outro where Nipsey is just saying a bunch of random shit that I don’t give a fuck about. If he has so much to say why doesn’t he just make it a song? Hip Hop songs don’t have to be about money, bitches and weed. The only time he ever talks about anything else is in these boring ass outros tho. This song is alright. Kinda boring. 3/5

Track 11: A Miracle (Prod. DJ Khalil & Mike & Keys)

This beat is dope af. The hook is alright. His flow is dope on this track. This song is supposed to be about how the fame hasn’t changed him. He spends a lot of the time talking about all the money he’s made. It’s cool tho. I fuck with this. 4/5

Track 12: No Nigga Like Me Feat. Trae The Truth (Prod. THC)

This beat is dope. Nipsey had an average flow. The hook was cool too. Trae fuckin’ killed it. His flow was crazy. I really liked that verse. I guess I’m just getting bored of Nipsey’s flow. I fuck with this song tho. This is dope. 4/5

Track 13: 50 Niggaz (Prod. Mike & Keys & Rance)

This beat is fuckin’ crazy. He’s talkin’ about Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown & Eric Garner. “Would you just accept if we murdered your children?” His flow is average. The hook is dope. I fuck with this. This is dope af. 5/5

Track 14: Be Here For A While Feat. Vernardo (Prod. Polyester)

Be Here For A While

This beat is smooth af. Nipsey’s flow is cool. The hook from Vernardo is dope af. This is smooth af. I fuck with this. 4/5

Track 15: Overtime (Prod. 1500 Or Nothin’ & Ralo)

This beat is dope. The hook is cool. He got his average boring flow. It’s not that bad tho. 3/5

Final Thoughts:

That wasn’t that bad. It got pretty boring in the middle, but he kinda picked it back up by the end. He needs to switch his flow up a little more often and stop talkin’ about the same shit everyone else talks about. I know he’s always gonna rap about the hustle since it’s in his name, but I think he should focus less on how far he’s made it and more on the struggle he came from. When he talks about how far he’s come it just sounds like he’s rapping about his money. The production wasn’t bad. He’s got a pretty good ear for beats. This was a good project. The shit ain’t worth 100 bucks tho. It ain’t even worth 15 bucks. You can definitely tell that this is a mixtape. It was cool tho.
