Album Review | Curren$y – Pilot Talk III

I’m not really a Curren$y fan. Honestly, the only thing about him that I think is good is his ear for beats. He got some good ass production. He is probably one of the most boring rappers I’ve ever heard. Actually, Troy Ave and Mark Battles are more boring than him. I still think he’s boring af tho. His voice is too laid back and the topics he chooses to rap about really aren’t that interesting. Wait a minute… I already know that I don’t like Curren$y. Why the fuck am I about to listen to this album? Whatever. It doesn’t really matter. I guess I just want to hear some good ass production.

Track 1: Opening Credits (Prod. Cool & Dre)

I already feel like I’m about to pass out and the song hasn’t even started yet. Damn. When the song first started, I didn’t think the beat was gonna be that great, but when it dropped… That shit is actually pretty dope. It’s not crazy or anything, but it’s good. It took a little while for things to get going tho. Curren$y didn’t say anything until the 40 second mark. Uh. This is… Curren$y’s flow just sounds so lazy. Nothing about him is impressive. His flow is lazy. His voice is monotone. His delivery sounds lazy af. Not even the lyrics are impressive. He’s just talkin’ about how he came up. What rapper hasn’t made a song like this? Curren$y is just so generic. The only thing I liked about this song was the beat. Curren$y isn’t really bad or anything, he really just isn’t very good. 3/5

Track 2: Long As The Lord Say (Prod. Ski Beatz)

This beat is dope af. His flow doesn’t sound as lazy as the previous song, but it’s still not that good. Curren$y is just so… boring. That’s really the only word to describe him. Curren$y even sounds bored himself. He sounds like the most normal person in the world. When the song is starting he literally says “uuuuhhhh eeeehhhh uuuuhh eehhh” He sounds like he’s talking in his sleep. That’s what his rapping sounds like. Some guy that’s dreaming about weed. He sounds like a guy that just wakes up, smokes weed, eats some Cheetoes and then goes to sleep. Every song is a description of a day in his life. But everyday he does the same thing. Wake up, smoke, eat, sleep. That’s it. The reverb on his voice during the hook really makes it sound even more boring. I feel like he’s hypnotizing me with his boring music and putting me to sleep. The beat’s cool, but I just can’t do this. Nah. I can’t even really call this bad. This is just the most average shit I’ve ever heard. 3/5

Track 3: Cargo Planes (Prod. Joey Fatts)

What is the whole Jet Life thing about? What’s with his obsession with planes? Is it because he’s always high? Is that it? This beat is dope af. I just feel like… I tune Curren$y out. His voice just fades out. I forget that he’s even rapping. It’s like listening to a dope instrumental album while a really boring teacher is giving a long ass lecture. A math teacher. Man… What the fuck is this? It’s not really horrible… It’s just so… bad. It’s not even bad tho, but I don’t know how to describe it. It’s not bad, but it’s the opposite of good. I know that doesn’t make sense, but this is just… Nah. Nah I ain’t feelin’ this shit. 2/5

Track 4: Froze Feat. Riff Raff (Prod. Harry Fraud)

Wait a minute… Why is he working with Riff Raff? Is he supposed to be a joke rapper like Lil B or Riff Raff? Is he? I really wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t think he takes Hip Hop very seriously. I don’t know. OOOOOHHHHH SHIT. This beat is so fucking dope. Good job, Harry Fraud. Riff Raff’s on the hook. Sounds like some robot shit. There’s definitely autotune on this shit, but there’s another effect that makes it sound even more robotic. I don’t know how to describe it. I’ve never heard anything like this before. Oh. Oh no. Well, as anyone could’ve predicted, Riff Raff has a verse on this track and it’s fucking terrible. It sounds like French Montana without use of the N word and “HAAAANN”. I guess that makes it better than the average French Montana verse, but damn. At least he has energy. He’s really having a hard time stayin’ on beat tho. Jesus. What are you doing, Curren$y? What self respecting artist puts someone like Riff Raff on they project? He still sounds boring af. He doesn’t fit over this production. The beat isn’t smooth, so why the fuck is Curren$y still using such a laid back, chill flow? Nah. This shit is wack. I ain’t like this shit. The beat is so fucking dope tho. This is just so bad. It’s so fucking bad. I can’t give it a 1 because the beat is too good, but this is easily a 2/5

Track 5: Get Down (Prod. Ski Beatz)

This beat is smooth af. Oh my God. This hook is so fucking boring. I don’t even know how that’s possible. He’s just mumbling. Mumbling over a smooth ass beat. There’s not really anything to say about this track. There’s an unbelievably lazy sounding hook and two boring verses. The beat is smooth. This is just sooo not good. But it really isn’t bad. I’m really not feelin’ this shit. I can’t call it terrible. I like the beat. It’s… just not good. 2/5

Track 6: Sidewalk Show (Prod. Ski Beatz)

This beat is dope. What the fuck? I’m a minute and thirteen seconds in and I feel like I’ve heard him spit 4 bars. He’s not rapping anymore. Is it over? Ok, he’s rapping again. Ok. It’s over now. The song was only 2 minutes long and I feel like he was rapping for 30 seconds. I have no idea… Why is this guy even… What the fuck man? Seriously what am I listening to? This is so fucking boring. What the fuck was that? Is he even a rapper? What is this? This shit is unrealistically boring. I feel bad for shitting on this guy, but damn. I am really not the right audience. I really dislike this song. But again, I can’t call this guy bad. He’s just… BORING. 2/5

Track 7: The 560 SL Feat. Wiz Khalifa (Prod. Cool & Dre & Edsclusive Co)

Oh, thank God. There’s another feature. Hopefully he makes things a little more interesting. I know I kinda shitted on his last project, but I actually do like some of Wiz Khalifa’s music. Oh my God. This hook. Is so fucking boring. It literally sounds like he’s asleep. He’s mumbling. This is ridiculous. What… What the fuck? I just don’t get it… Why the fuck doesn’t he just… Rap? Normally? Just wake up and rap. Seriously. This is… I really don’t get it. I can’t believe how boring this is. How does he even… How? Why is this like this? I don’t even know what to think of this shit. He isn’t saying anything important. He’s just saying nothing. Nothing about him is interesting. This beat isn’t even that good. Wiz Khalifa sounds high, but he doesn’t sound nearly as bored as Curren$y. They must be smokin’ different strands. His verse was cool I guess. This is just. Nah. No. No. Oh God. The way his verse ends… When Curren$y’s hook comes back in, all of the momentum that Wiz had just… I don’t know. This is bad. Nah. I ain’t feelin’ this. You can really tell that they recorded in different studios. This is wack. To me at least. I know he has a cult following… But I really just don’t get it. 2/5

Track 8: Audio Dope 5 (Prod. Ski Beatz)

I never heard the other Audio Dope songs. I’m assuming this is a series that he has. This is really just not good. I don’t know what I can say that I haven’t already said before. It’s like I’m listening to the same boring ass song over and over again. Every verse I’ve heard so far could come from the same damn song. The only difference is the production and even that sounds similar a lot of the time. What makes this an Audio Dope song? How is the Audio Dope series different from any other song? Everything he says just fades into the background. I can’t do this. I ain’t feelin’ this shit man. 2/5

Track 9: Life I Chose Feat. J. Townsend (Prod. Cool & Dre)

I really just shouldn’t have started listening to this tbh. Those Jet Life fans are gonna tear me apart for this. This beat… It’s not really bad, but It’s nothing special. I’m not feelin’ the hook. J. Townsend is singin’ and it doesn’t sound very good. It’s not horrible, but nah. I’m not really feelin’ this song. 2/5

Track 10: Pot Jar Feat. Jadakiss (Prod. Cool & Dre)

Oh, thank God. I really fuck with Jadakiss, so this should be better. Curren$y’s flow actually sounds better on this track. The hook is pretty boring tho. Jada’s verse was dope af. The beat’s really smooth. Nah. I still ain’t really feelin’ this, but the Jadakiss verse made it better tho. It’s alright. 3/5

Track 11: Search Party (Prod. Ski Beatz)

The drum pattern for this beat doesn’t really fit. Curren$y’s flow sounds off too. Something about this track just isn’t right. I can’t figure out what it is exactly. This is just as boring as the other songs. This is… I really am not enjoying this project. I’m not feelin’ this. 2/5

Track 12: All I Know (Prod. Ski Beatz)

I’m pretty sure this is the same sample from Westside, Right On Time. Canei Finch did a better job with the sample, and Kendrick did a better job rapping. I don’t know what to say. Everything I’ve said so far applies to this song. Not feelin’ it. 2/5

Track 13: Briefcase (Prod. Ski Beatz)

Curren$y sounds a little better on this. Damn. It honestly may just be his voice. He’s more energetic on this song, but he still sounds boring. The beat is nothing special. I don’t care about anything he’s saying. His flow is not very good. Nah. I ain’t feeling this. 2/5

Track 14: Lemonade Mimosas (Prod. Jahlil Beats)

Wow. This should be interesting. The beat is dope af. Jahlil did a good ass job. Curren$y’s flow is nothing special. You know what? I think I might actually like this song. Not because of Curren$y… I honestly still wish he wasn’t even on this beat, but Jahlil really did his thing. If I had to keep one song from this project it might be this one. The only difference between this song and the other ones is the better production. This really isn’t a good song. It’s not terrible tho. 3/5

Track 15: Alert Feat. Styles P (Prod. Ski Beatz)

This is the most interesting beat on the whole project. It actually sounds different. Curren$y really didn’t want to step it up for the finale I guess. He sounds just as bored, if not more so than he did on the other tracks. The beat actually sounds a little too loud. His vocals need to be turned up. Maybe I need to turn down the bass. Idk. Styles P’s verse was dope. Styles P is a fuckin’ G. Curren$y must be close to the Lox. This is alright. I liked Styles P’s part. 3/5

Final Thoughts:

Thank God. It’s over. Wow. That shit was… Do I even have to say it? It’s ridiculous how boring this shit is. I don’t believe it. People really throw the word unbelievable around too much. I am seriously in disbelief of how boring this shit is. I didn’t know music could be like this. Why do people like him? I don’t think he’s terrible or anything and I honestly feel bad for shitting on him like that, but seriously… What the fuck? Where is the appeal? I understand liking chill, laid back music, but seriously. If you like laid back music there are much better alternatives to Curren$y. I feel like people just like his production. If Curren$y wasn’t on here it would still be laid back. So what exactly does Curren$y add that the production doesn’t already have. If two people were to get really fucking faded and one of them listened to this album and the other listened to an instrumental version, would the guy with this album be happier. I don’t believe so. He certainly doesn’t add deep lyrics. Curren$y is the most generic rapper I have ever heard. Fuck. I keep forgetting about Mark Battles & Troy Ave. At least those guys switch they topics up from time to time tho. This dude is just weed and cars. I can’t get behind it. I really don’t understand the appeal. Reviewing this album is one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made. He is the definition of not for me. I don’t really understand why other people like him, but I don’t have a problem with Curren$y or his fans. He is just not my cup of tea. I feel like that tea is really watered down and generic. That’s just me tho. I feel like I made this shit sound a lot worse than it is. I really can’t say this is bad. I can definitely say that it isn’t good. I’d be lying if I said that the dope ass album cover didn’t affect my desire to listen to this. It’s very rare that I feel like giving up in the middle of an album review. This album made me want to stop listening to music. I did not get one song from this project. Curren$y is easily my least favorite part of this album. Maybe Riff Raff. Maybe. I wanted to listen to this album to hear some dope production, but not even the production was that good. I’ve definitely heard better beats from Curren$y’s music. This might honestly be some of his worst work. Do his fans like this as much as his other projects? I thought the production would be amazing. None of the beats on this project sound as good as Address, or Airborne Aquarium or even A Gee. The one thing I was looking forward to from this project ended up disappointing me. That’s just me tho. I’m sure the Jet Life cult following ate this shit up. It’s really just not for me.
