This is the second project in Rockie Fresh’s The Night I Went To… series of EPs. It was released on March 29th this year. I thought the Los Angeles EP was pretty bad, but hopefully he stepped things up for his hometown. Honestly, I’m not expecting to like this. I’ll hopefully get at least one dope track out of it tho.
Track 1: I Just Might (Prod. B.Carr, Mike Daley & Mitchell Owens)
This track is labeled as a “freestyle,” so I’m really not expecting to like this. He was also apparently getting his dick sucked while recording it, so I doubt he’ll have any more energy than he usually does. It’s starting now. This is another beat that I could see Kanye on. Wow. Rockie actually has a more energetic delivery on this track than usual. I mean, it’s still pretty boring, but it’s better than the other shit he’s been putting out. It’s very slight tho. This beat is dope. Wow. This is way better than I thought it’d be. I’m still not really fuckin’ with it personally, but it’s not that bad. The bars themselves aren’t any better than they usually are from Rockie, but his flow & delivery were much better. This is actually a decent song. 3/5
Track 2: Stars & Lights Feat. BJ The Chicago Kid (Prod. Mike Daley & Mitchell Owens)
Ugh… More love songs… I guess that’s just his style. Every other song is about a girl. It’s like Drake’s music. “It’s been a while since you came around / I was just chillin’ on your side of town.” The lyrics are very simplistic. That could be said about most of Rockie Fresh’s music tho. This song really isn’t for me. I don’t really like anything about this track. Except BJ The Chicago Kid. He actually sounded really good here. He sounds good on everything tho. I’m not feelin’ this song. This is wack to me. 2/5
Track 3: Nothing Wrong With That (Interlude)
Are you fucking shitting me? iTunes just crashed on me. Fuck. That’s annoying. I can’t find the fucking production credits for this one. Whatever. It’s starting now. I fuck with this beat. It’s very atmospheric. Rockie’s singing in autotune about some girl again. “Ima take my time / Ima take my time / Ima make you mine / Ima make you mine / Ima take my time / Ima take my time / Ima take my time / Ima take my time / Ima make you mine / Ima make you mine / Ima make you mine / Ima make you mine.” Nah. I’m not feelin’ this shit. The production was dope—especially when the beat drops toward the end—but other than that this shit is wack to me. 2/5
Track 4: Never Do (Prod. Mike Daley & Mitchell Owens)
I’m about halfway through this track and I’m actually kinda enjoying it. It’s another autotune soaked R&B track, but the production is really dope. The subject matter isn’t very interesting to me. This is really soft. The beat’s pretty good. I can’t get behind this shit tho. It’s less than two minutes long. I think this track is alright. It’s decent. I wouldn’t listen to it again tho. 3/5
Track 5: Aurora (Prod. Mike Daley & Mitchell Owens)
Huh… This beat sounds kinda familiar. It’s like he used the same sample that Sonny Digital used in I’m The Man. I’m not really feelin’ the beat. Rockie is singin’ in autotune again. I feel like I’ve been listening to the same song over and over again. This motherfucker really wishes he was Chris Brown. This sounds like a fuckin’ reference track for a Chris Brown & Rihanna collaboration. Not that that’d ever happen again anytime soon… This is probably the most boring song on the whole project so far. This is wack af to me. 1/5
Final Thoughts:
This EP is pretty bad too. I think it’s a little more consistent than the Los Angeles one, but there still aren’t any songs on here that I’d ever wanna hear again. There aren’t really any major differences. It’s just more bad autotuned R&B music about girls. There’s pretty much zero appeal for me. I didn’t even think the production was that good. There were definitely beats in there that I like, but it wasn’t consistent. I can’t fuck with this EP. This is wack to me.
