This mixtape was released on January 4th this year. I honestly have pretty much nothing to say about this project before I listen to it. I don’t really know what the reception was like ’cause I didn’t see any reviews, but I don’t see Cozz putting out anything wack, so I guess I’m expecting this to be dope. I definitely don’t think it’ll be bad. If I’m not mistaken this is the final Dreamville project on my schedule, so it might be a minute before y’all get any more Dreamville reviews. If you request another Dreamville project I might do it tho. So yeah. Is J. Cole dropping something this year? I guess it’s been a while since Forest Hills came out, right? He might at least drop another Truly Yours EP. Whatever. That doesn’t matter. I’m expecting this mixtape to be dope. Every song is produced by Meez.
Track 1: Wake Up Call
This beat is really dope. Yes. He’s still got that super aggressive delivery. He’s fuckin’ killin’ this first verse. “Some niggas choose to be salty out of all of the seasonings / First off I’ll never understand what the reason is / Second off you’re opinion ain’t achieving shit / Third, I’m probably the best / Bitch, I can go back and forth; Ima plead the 5th.” The first verse was dope af. The hook’s nothing special, but it does it’s job well enough. The second verse was dope. I fuck with this song. The beat’s good, and Cozz did a great job with the verses. This song is dope to me. 4/5
Track 2: All Eyez On Me
This beat isn’t bad. It’s not super impressive or anything, but it does it’s job. The first verse was cool. His flow seemed a little shaky when he said “Nigga who you lying to? / I don’t look that sick, but nigga, that swine flu / Lemme remind you.” It was only a couple of lines where he sounded off tho. The hook’s nothing special. The second verse was cool. Honestly, this song isn’t really doin’ much for me. It’s definitely not bad, but it doesn’t stand out very much. It’s just a decent song. It’s not really doin’ nothin’ for me. Nothing about it is really bad, but I don’t think I’d ever have the desire to listen to it again. It’s alright. 3/5
Track 3: My Side (Co-Prod. D2)
This beat’s pretty good. I think I might’ve heard this song before. It’s dope. He did his thing on the first verse. Wait, hold up… What the fuck is this hook? No. I’m not feelin’ this hook. It’s not terrible, but I can’t fuck with it. Why is he singing like that? Honestly, I don’t even think his singing is that bad. I just really wish he didn’t throw so much reverb on that shit. It sounds weird. It’s like the sound quality dramatically decreases as soon as he starts singing. Nah. That hook isn’t good. The second verse was fine I guess. It was pretty short. This is another decent song. I probably would’ve liked this if it weren’t for the hook. The production & bars from Cozz were good. That hook tho… I can’t get behind that hook. It’s an alright song. 3/5
Track 4: Grey Goose (Co-Prod. T-Lew)
WHAT the fuck is this shit? Oh my gawd… I was NOT expecting to hear anything this wack on this tape. Damn. Alright lemme start from the beginning. This sounds like one of the most half assed, boring, lazy Drake beats anyone could ever make. That’s not even the main problem tho. This hook is a fucking trainwreck. He’s singing “I just had a sip of Grey Goose,” and it sounds fucking awful. It sounds like he was actually drunk when he sang that shit. This is like… This is on the level of a Future hook for me. Oh no… NO… He’s singing the VERSE too. Are you fuckin’ shitting me right now? Cozz… I can’t believe Cozz made this shit. “I ain’t no ho, but I gotta know / Which one of you hoes coming to my home / ‘Cause I’ve been off my motherfuckin’ shit lately.” Is this some kind of joke? This sounds like a parody. This first verse is fucking horrible. I can’t believe Cozz made this shit. It would’ve been a bad song either way, but the fuckin’ reverb effect on his voice just adds insult to injury. There’s absolutely no way in hell this fool was sober when he recorded this song. Good lord. The second verse is just as bad. This whole song is just pure fucking dogshit. I cannot fuck with this one. This is easily the worst Cozz song I’ve ever heard, if not the worst Dreamville song I’ve ever heard. This is fucking horrible. It’s wack af. 0/5
Track 5: City Of God Feat. Boogie
Hopefully this song’ll be dope. I actually fuck with Boogie. One of the first reviews I ever did was of his mixtape Thirst 48. It wasn’t that good of a review, but I liked the mixtape a lot. I still have to review The Reach eventually. The song is starting now. Okay, Cozz is actually rapping on this one instead of singing. Thank God. The beat is nothing special, but it does it’s job. The first verse was dope. Huh. I actually like the keys that come in during the hook. That’s pretty much the only thing that stands out about the production. The hook itself isn’t that great, but it gets the job done. Boogie’s verse was dope. I fuck with this song. I don’t think it’s great or anything, but I enjoyed it. Anything’s better than that previous song. It’s dope. 4/5
Track 6: Choice Today
Oh my God, man. No. Why does he keep doing this? He’s singing again. It has that terrible reverb effect on it. This hook is fucking awful. What the fuck was this fool thinking? The beat is dope af. OH MY GAWD. Why is this so bad? Why… WHY? I don’t understand what made him think this sounded good. He sounds horrible. The first verse was fucking wack. He wasn’t rapping; he was still singing. Am I being trolled? What the fuck is this shit? What the FUCK? When he DOES start rapping on the second verse he’s horribly off beat until the percussion comes in. Wow. This is making me sad. Cozz can do better than this. This shit is fucking wack af. I can’t fuck with this shit at all. 1/5
Track 7: Grow Feat. Correy C
This song first appeared on that Revenge Of The Dreamers II compilation album by Dreamville. I already know this song is dope af. Just read my review of Revenge Of The Dreamers II. The beat is dope af, and Cozz killed it. I wish the hook was a little better, but it doesn’t really hurt the track that much. I fuck with this. It’s dope af. 5/5
Track 8: Who Said
This beat is okay I guess. The hook is alright. He killed the first verse. Thank God. I was getting worried about this tape, but he seems to be heading in the right direction. NOOO. He started singing in the middle of the second verse, and it was fucking horrible. Why the fuck does he put so much reverb on his vocals? It was thankfully only for two lines. Oh no… He’s singing again. He starts singing every other couple of bars. Meh… I honestly don’t really fuck with this song. The production and hook are pretty weak. He did his thing on the first verse. The second verse was ruined by his terrible singing. I don’t like this one. It’s definitely not as bad as some of the other songs on this tape, but I still don’t think it’s good. This is below average to me. I can’t fuck with this. This is wack. 2/5
Track 9: Tabs Feat. Bas
This is another song that first appeared on the Revenge Of The Dreamers II compilation. I don’t fuck with this one tho. In fact, this was actually my least favorite song from that album. The beat is dope, and the hook is cool at first, but it gets old REALLY fuckin’ quickly. Again, you should just read my original review of this song, but in a nutshell, the only thing that really stands out about this song is Bas’ verse. He killed this shit. Cozz’s flow was disappointing. I don’t fuck with this song. I don’t think it’s that bad tho. It’s sadly one of the better tracks on this project. That isn’t saying much tho. It’s alright. 3/5
Track 10: Tell Me
OOOOOH MY GAWD. ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME COZZ? I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE HOW BAD THIS SHIT IS. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?? I KNOW THIS FOOL CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS. DOOON’T. SIIING. YOU CANNOT FUCKING SING. Even if he WAS a decent fucking singer, these melodies aren’t even good. Oh my God. I… I just can’t believe it… I was not expecting to hear anything worse than Grey Goose on this tape. THIS is easily the worst song I’ve ever heard from any Dreamville artist. “Tell me that that pussy’s mine now.” What the fuck is happening? “Just promise that I can have that pussy when I want / Promise that a real nigga gonna beat it up / Promise I can eat it up for dinner and lunch / Have that shit for brunch girl.” How do you go from a song like Knock The Hustle to a song like this? Oh. Thank God, he’s actually rapping the verses. He’s not even rapping well tho. Yeah, his flow isn’t below average, but… “Baby girl you gotta be tough for me / Tell them niggas get the fuck from me / Tell them niggas that they butt ugly / Tell them niggas to get some money.” Why the fuck am I getting struggle bars from Cozz? Nah. The first verse was wack. This song is fucking horrible. I just said that out loud to myself in real life. It’s so bad. Cozz’s hooks have never been that great, but this is just unbelievable. This is a fucking disaster. This is one of the worst songs I’ve heard all year, which is saying a lot since I listened to Desiigner’s mixtape. “Tell me that that pussy is mine.” Even if he wasn’t singing I probably wouldn’t fuck with this song. The subject matter isn’t for me in the first place. You know what the most annoying thing about this song is tho? The beat is fucking awesome. He fucking ruined it tho. This song is fucking unforgivable. I can’t fucking stand this shit. This is fucking dogshit. 0/5
Track 11: GWBW (All Good)
This beat is cool. Cozz is actually rapping, and his flow isn’t bad, but the subject matter isn’t for me. This sounds like some Drake shit. This sounds like a message he wrote directly to some random chick in California. Why am I supposed to care about this girl? I don’t give a fuck about her or Cozz’s relationship with her. This hook is fucking horrible. Jesus fucking Christ, Cozz. What the FUCK am I listening to? I’m getting so fucking angry listening to this bullshit. Cozz is a great rapper. He should NOT be making music this bad. It doesn’t make sense… I feel like Joe Budden right now. “Meez continues to progress. Cozz, you DO NOT.” The second verse was alright. This song isn’t tho. This song is wack. The only thing I like about this song is the fucking production, and even the beat isn’t that good. This is wack to me. 2/5
Track 12: Bonnie & Clyde Feat. Free Ackrite (Co-Prod. Mike Almighty)
Free Ackrite was featured on my least favorite song from Cozz & Effect, but I don’t think it was his fault. Hopefully he impressed me on this song. It’s starting now. Oh no… I’m not feelin’ this wack hook. It’s not nearly as bad as a lot of the other songs on this project, but I’m still not feelin’ it. The beat’s cool. I’m not feelin’ that first verse. His melodic delivery doesn’t sound good at all. This is another song with uninteresting content. “Girl I want to know would you lie to me / When I’m on the road do your ride for me.” I actually liked Free Ackrite’s verse. I still don’t give a shit about the content, but his flow was dope. I can’t tho. I can’t fuck with this song. This shit is wack. 2/5
Track 13: Guinness (Co-Prod. Mike Almighty)
Okay, last chance. Hopefully he comes through with a dope song for the outro. Okay, he hasn’t done any singing yet. I hope it stays that way. The beat is nothing special. The first verse was cool I guess. The hook isn’t bad. I just listened the whole song. It isn’t bad. I don’t think it’s very good, but it’s definitely not bad. It’s one of the better songs on the mixtape. It has pretty much 0 replay value for me personally, but I think it’s a decent song. 3/5
Track +: Halftime Show
This song was released a few months after Nothin’ Personal. I’m not sure why. Hopefully it was to show his fans that he still knows how to make good music. I’ve never heard it before. It’s starting now. I just listened to the whole song. Objectively, I feel like this is a pretty good song, but personally, I don’t see myself coming back to this. He was rapping well. There’s no hook or anything. His flow was dope. The beat was nothing special. It was a cool song. It’s definitely not bad. I can recommend it to his fans. There’s just not really any replay value in it for me. It’s not bad tho. It’s alright. 3/5
Final Thoughts:
…What the fuck was that? Seriously what just happened? I am fucking shocked. I don’t believe how bad this shit was… Cozz is a very talented rapper. His album was great. This mixtape is just a mess tho… I know he always works with Meez, but the production was very hit or miss for me. That’s not even the biggest problem tho. What the fuck made Cozz think that it was okay for him to sing all over this mixtape? He cannot sing at all. He sounds fucking horrendous. It would’ve been bad enough in the first place, but then they had to drench his vocals in reverb. It sounded like he was underwater. It sounded like he was drowning and screaming for help. I don’t know what the fuck happened with this mixtape, man… The hooks were catastrophic. The content was underwhelming… It’s just a bad project. The best song on here is a song I’d already heard before. This is a major disappointment. I was not expecting this mixtape to be this bad at all. It’s wack tho. I can’t fuck with this mixtape.
