EP Review | Gucci Mane – 3 For Free

This EP was released on January 25th this year. Honestly, I forgot that this project even existed. I’m pretty sure most people did. I figured I’d just go ahead and give it a chance; it’s only three tracks, so if it ends up being terrible I won’t have to suffer much. I don’t think I’m gonna like it. Gucci’s one of those artists who can drop one project with like 20 songs on it, and I’ll be lucky if I like two of them. I’ll try to keep an open mind tho. Every song is produced by Shawty Redd.

Track 1: Ever

Oh fucking shit. Lmao. This beat is hard as FUCK. BRUUUH. HAHAHA. Wow. I was NOT expecting the production to be this good. I don’t know why honestly. I guess I just thought this was gonna be a generic, half assed project. This sounds really good tho. He killed that first verse.

Say you never met a killer? Then you never met me / Hold up, hold up, they done let the Wop free / Hold up, hold up, he say he want a hundred keys / Well pull up, pull up; None for you, and more for me.

This shit is so hard. Man, I love this guy. Even tho the overwhelming majority of his music sounds uninspired and generic, I just can’t help but love him. He’s been even doper than he was before ever since he got outta jail too. This hook is dope af. This shit really caught me off guard. I really fuck with this track. This is great.

Track 2: Wasn’t Me

Woooah… Dude… What the fuck? This beat is amazing… Am I about to give a Gucci Mane project one of the highest scores of the year? I’m fucking shocked right now… This is too good. It doesn’t make sense. This Shawty Redd dude needs to work with Gucci Mane on EVERY fucking album from now on. This beat is even better than the previous one. It’s incredible. This is Trap Music at its best. Man… I’m gonna have to check out the rest of Gucci’s post-jail releases if he’s improved this much. This shit is HARD. The only problem I have with this track is the fact that he uses the same exact flow for the entire song. Even the hook sounds just like the verses. It gets really old after a while. Everything else about this shit is great tho. I fuck with this track. This is dope.

Track 3: Sir Brix-A-Lot

This beat sounds like it has more of an Electro Hop influence than the previous ones. Holy fuck. Lord have mercy… Bruh, the fucking bass under these synths is monstrous. This Shawty Redd guy needs placements on EVERY Trap project from now on. These beats are all fantastic. Fuck… Okay, this is my favorite song on the project. The hook isn’t amazing or anything, but the way he’s rapping on these verses sounds so fuckin’ hard to me. I love this flow he’s using. This production is insane. The way Shawty Redd incorporated this vigorous sub-bass gives the entire song kind of a complete, more robust vibe. It just brings it all together really nicely. I don’t know how good this would be without it. I definitely fuck with this track. This is dope af.

Final Thoughts:

This is shockingly one of the best, most well-produced projects of the year so far. I didn’t think I was gonna like this at all, but Gucci really caught me off guard. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about it. This is Trap Music done right. Shawty Redd put his ASS into these beats. Gucci’s verses actually have some effort put into them. It’s like he’s actually making sure his music is decent before releasing it, which he didn’t do before he went to jail. I’m just so fucking shocked by how good this is… I really gotta check out the other shit he’s dropped recently because this project right here is dope af.

Favorite Song: Sir Brix-A-Lot

Least Favorite Song: Wasn’t Me
