Post Malone: The Modern Day Vanilla Ice

So I recently saw an article on XXL highlighting 20 standout Hip Hop related moments from In Living Color. I didn’t know what In Living Color was until I watched that Jim Carrey documentary on Netflix because my friend Johnny wouldn’t shut up about it. Anyway, I’ve never seen the show, and the only clip I watched was the one with Jim Carrey in it. It’s the skit in which Jim makes fun of Vanilla Ice for being a culture vulture.

That term gets thrown around a lot, and I don’t think I really understood what it meant until recently. DJ Vlad gets called a “culture vulture” by a lot of people on the internet. Depending on your definition, he may in fact be one, but not to the same extent that someone like Vanilla Ice was. Vanilla Ice had little to no connection to the culture he was profiting from. He was just a white dude who couldn’t rap. How does a white guy that can’t rap get popular while making Hip Hop music? Well… To put it bluntly, stupid white people thought he was cool. People who didn’t understand the culture heard a vibrant instrumental and saw a white guy who followed every stereotype of a black Hip Hop artist. If you don’t see that, you either don’t care about Hip Hop culture, or you’re just a dumbass. Sorry. So how does this connect to Post Malone? Do I even have to continue? Look at this dude…

p'alone

He looks like a modern day minstrel show character dipped in bleach. The only reason people give him a pass is because he makes sonically pleasing music. That’s literally the only explanation I can think of. He obviously doesn’t respect the culture from which he profits.

“If you’re looking for lyrics, if you’re looking to cry, if you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop,” he said. “There’s great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they spit that real shit, but right now, there’s not a lot of people talking about shit.” — Rap-Up

“i do this shit because i love to do this shit.” This dude is a fucking idiot lmao. By “this shit” he means profiting off a culture he has no respect for. “I love profiting off of your culture, even though I don’t respect it.” That’s literally what he’s admitting to. He can’t defend himself with a logical answer, so he’s lashing out against his critics by telling them to suck his dick. Is he not getting his dick sucked by people that actually like him? Apparently not.

Just to be clear, this article is not about the quality of Post Malone’s music. I think he has some catchy tracks. I’m only talking about him as a person, and, as a person, I think he’s a douche, so y’all can stop defending him for that.

  1. I dislike Post and what he stands for.

He’s like a White Yachty, because neither of them really care about the culture they’re apart of. They just see the dollars to make off fellow idiots…..

My biggest issue with Post is that it’s all a joke to him, he’s a wannabe Outlaw Country singer who wouldn’t be fit to shine the boots of people like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty so instead he decides to go the rapping route (if you can even can call it that). And has thus set an elaborate rouse to make money for himself from all the idiots buying his music.

    Fuck Post.

(Sidenote: You REEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLYYYYY need to watch In Living Color.)

Tell me if I'm trippin'
