EP Review | Dizzy Wright – Don’t Tell Me It Can’t Be Done

This EP was released on June 1st this year (2018). I’m no stan of Dizzy Wright, but I think the dude’s talent is undeniable. He’s got a great flow, and is pretty good at coming up with catchy hooks. He’s got the formula down. He knows how to put a good Hip Hop song together. I first discovered him when his original Golden Era mixtape dropped. I remember really liking Tory Lanez’s feature on that project. He used to be signed to Hopsin’s Funk Volume, but now he just works under his own Still Movin’ Records label. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a dud from him, so I’m expecting this EP to be pretty good.

The first track is rough. The production is really nice, but that autotuned hook is fucking awful. His verse is average as hell too. It’s not a good song.

Vibe is a really mainstream sounding song. I’m not really feelin’ the sung hook from Dizzy. The beat is great though. I kinda wish Dizzy didn’t focus so much on creating “catchy” melodies. It just sounds like Pop music to me. The feature from Kid Ink did absolutely nothing to affect my enjoyment of the song. It’s a really generic track.

Hit ‘Em with the Pose is thankfully a standard Hip Hop track. The hook is pretty catchy, and his flow on the first verse isn’t bad. I don’t particularly care for the concupiscent content, but I’d be lying if I said it truly bothered me. The Offset & Cardi B references from Jazz Lazr were cool. His verse was decent. It’s not a bad song at all. I fuck with it. The electronic beat on the title track wasn’t bad, and Dizzy killed it. It’s a really energetic song. I love the way the beat switches up towards the end. He goes on to talk about how some people just aren’t on the same frequency as him. I feel that. I know what he’s talking about. Some people aren’t cool with him smoking weed for whatever reason.

You don’t use your third eye

That definitely means he smokes a lot of weed. I liked the melodic hook on Dope Talent, and the production was really nice. It’s super smooth. Logic’s feature was phoned in, but at least he’s self aware.

Murdered this shit with the laziest flow

Me & Mine is decent. The production is really chill. I wasn’t crazy about the melodic delivery Dizzy used, but his flow was cool. I really liked that line about independent niggas being on top. It’s inspiring. I’m not really familiar with Don Rich, but he did a pretty good job on Way Up. I wasn’t feelin’ Dizzy’s first verse though. He used a shit ton of autotune on the second one. The Childish Gambino reference was cool. It’s not a bad song, but I’m never gonna listen to it again. It’s alright.

This EP is okay. It had a rough start, but it gradually increased in terms of overall quality. It was actually kinda like a bell curve. It was great in the middle, and mediocre at the beginning & end. Overall, it’s not bad though. It’s worth checking out if you’re a fan.
