Round 1
So I’m sure you’re all aware of the battle between Tory Lanez & Joyner Lucas that took place yesterday. Apparently it all started when Tory made some comments on Instagram Live basically saying something along the lines of “Joyner Lucas is nice, but he’s not fuckin’ with me.” Obviously when Joyner saw this he wasn’t having it, so he challenged Tory to a rap battle, and the rest is history. Tory took the first shot with a freestyle over Lucky You by Eminem, which featured Joyner Lucas.
I gotta say, Tory really came through with a nice track. There are only a few lines that seem like they’re directed towards Joyner though. For the most part, it just seems like he was rapping normally. His flow is fantastic on this track though. After hearing this track, I don’t see how anyone can think Drake is a better rapper than Tory. Tory’s just so much more entertaining to listen to in my opinion. Anyway, the song is just one really nice verse. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing or anything, but it’s definitely far above average. Lyrically, he doesn’t really say anything that jumps out at me. It’s really just all about his flow. He sounds great spitting that verse. If I had to give it a grade, I’d probably go with a solid B. Anyway, Joyner came back with his response less than 24 hours later. It’s a remix of Litty by Meek Mill, which featured Tory Lanez.
Joyner definitely had the better track. It’s not like it completely blows Tory out of the water though. Tory still had a good verse. I just like Joyner’s song more because he’s actually dissing Tory directly, and he raps for a longer amount of time than Tory did. I even like the hook on this track. My one and only gripe with the song is that weird line about Ras Kass.
When you sing, you ain’t half bad, but you rapping like Ras Kass
Is Tory rapping like Ras Kass supposed to be a bad thing? Because Ras Kass is a really fuckin’ good rapper… That line doesn’t really make sense to me, but other than that it’s a dope song. There are also some shots at Trippie Redd. Trippie Redd was basically talking reckless to Tory Lanez on Instagram Live about Joyner Lucas, so that’s why Joyner took some jabs at him. That line where he compared Tory & Trippie to Ren & Stimpy was pretty funny. That line about Tory’s hairline was pretty great too. It’s a really dope track. I’m still not completely blown away, but it’s a really good song. If I had to give it a grade, I’d probably go with a B+. At the end of the song Joyner invites Tory to collaborate, which is cool of him. I don’t really like the new stuff Tory’s been putting out recently. I was a fan of him around 2012, but his music isn’t as good as it was back then in my opinion. I’m not sure how I’ll feel about a collab between the two artists, but I’m sure it won’t be complete ass. So yeah. Those are my thoughts on this battle. Let me know what you guys think. Joyner wins in my opinion. Hopefully there’ll be a round two. We’ll see.
Round 2
About 12 hours after Joyner dropped his response to Tory, Tory has come back with another track. This time he’s spitting over Litty again.
To be completely honest… Tory fucking snapped on this shit. This is actually better than Joyner’s Litty freestyle. Tory’s flow on this track is marvelous, and he’s much more direct with his disses than he was on the first track. It’s also a lot longer than his Lucky You freestyle. He’s goin’ off for about three and a half minutes. Again, it’s not amazing lyrically. It’s really entertaining to listen to though. His flow is phenomenal. It’s a really great verse. I can’t wait to see how Joyner responds. If I had to grade this new track from Tory I’d probably give it a B+. So yeah. Hopefully Joyner responds by the end of the day. We’ll see what happens.
13 Hours Later…
Alright, Joyner has officially responded to Tory Lanez’s Litty Again freestyle with his own remix of Kodak Black’s Zeze track which I think featured Offset & Travis Scott. I might be wrong about that though. I don’t know.
For the most part, Joyner focused on lyrics rather than a flashy flow. I kinda like this approach he took. He went in on Tory for being in Drake’s shadow. There was a mention of Tory’s hair again. However, to me the best shot at Tory came when Joyner pointed out the fact that he blatantly plagiarized Kendrick Lamar’s The Art of Peer Pressure on I Told You. I still don’t know how he got away with that. That’s the wackest thing Tory’s ever done to be honest. Anyway, Joyner’s flow kinda picks up for the last few bars of the song before he stumbles over his words and gives up. Then he tells Tory that they should stop going back and forth. I think it’s a pretty good response. I’m not as impressed by it as I want to be. Again, I liked that he focused on insulting Tory instead of blowing people away with his flow. There weren’t really any lines that stood out that much though. He doesn’t have a “YOU ARE HIDING A CHILD” moment on this track. I guess I shouldn’t be expecting anything like that though. Anyway, I still think it’s a good response. If I had to grade it I’d probably go with a solid B. So there ya go. I think Tory came slightly harder during round 2. I kinda hope there’s a round 3, but I won’t hold my breath for one.
