Album Review | Flee Lord & Roc Marciano – Delgado

This album was released on August 27th this year. Flee Lord is one of the most prolific artists I know of. Last year he dropped a full album every single month, and he’s already put out a collaborative project with DJ Muggs this year, which was pretty good. Most of his projects don’t really blow me away, but all of the ones I’ve heard have had some pretty good songs on them. My favorite project from him as of August 30th is No More Humble Fashion, which is dope as hell. I’m not super well-versed in Roc Marciano‘s production skills, but I did enjoy his work on Stove God Cook$’s album from last year. Anyway, I’m not expecting greatness from this album, but I’ll be shocked if I don’t enjoy it to some extent honestly.

The album begins with Delgado Intro, which I think is really dope. I love the piano-driven production from Roc, and Flee Lord did his thing on both of the verses. He rhymes really well, and he switched his flow up a couple times.

Yeah we luxury and slick, you worried on the strip
I'm eatin' curry in my whip, whole scenario is sick
I made it flurry on the 6 while you was braggin' to your bitch
Lordy we eat, hit the road, you know, hurry up and dip

I also really like the uncredited vocals on the hook. I don’t know who that was singing, but they sounded great. Flee Lord killed the last verse too.

Backin' up in that foreign, back in court with that warrant
This half a cup that I'm pourin' got me plastered up, now I'm yawnin'
Been hip since my first sale, shockin' like I was a third rail
Movin' so much weight around here, had to go buy me a fishscale
Leave the house with the straps, screeching out, leavin' tracks
Weaving all you niggas' traps, up if you want, get put on your back, reach and get clapped

The song is really dope to me. It’s followed by Slow Down, which has kind of a strange instrumental. I like it though. The song is pretty short, but it really packs a punch. I think Flee Lord rapped his ass off here. I love his aggressive delivery and fast paced flow.

Poppin' at the paparazzi, moppin' back the Maserati
Got the lobby jeekin', I ain't even have to drop a body
Pistol in my purple jeans, surfin' while I circle queens
Yeah I do my rap, but I don't chat about certain things
Roc Mar' composed it, I chose it then I froze it
This fish got your nose lit, and open like a four-fifth
Y'all agents for the state, I'm filleting all my weight
Gettin' millions off of love, y'all niggas famous for the hate
It's a shame and disgrace, see me flamin' at your face
It was all a smoke screen, see I'm aimin' for the safe

The whole track is pretty much just Flee Lord rapping with no hook or bridge or anything like that. He killed this song though. He was rhyming his ass off. I really fuck with this track. It’s dope. The following track is entitled Shouts to the Mobb / Medusa, and it has a feature from Conway the Machine. This track has my favorite beat up to this point on the record. I think the production is amazing. It’s really smooth and soulful. The second beat is fire as well. The first verse from Flee Lord is great, but he really went in on the second one.

The money stay clickin', eatin' honey-glazed chicken
Every gang got the music, heard we runnin' 8 prisons
Sippin' white henny with the red grenadine
We was grubbin' like it's nothin' 'til the feds intervened

I even like the hook on this track, and Conway killed the final verse. This is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. I think it’s dope as hell. Track 4 is called This What Ya Want? The beat on this track doesn’t stand out to me as much, but it’s not bad at all. I really like the way this song is structured; Flee Lord is just rapping the whole time. The first verse is great. The beat switches up a little past the halfway point, and it’s really dope. I don’t have any gripes with the song. I think it’s dope. Track 5 is called Breath of Air, and it was one of the most exciting songs in the tracklist for me because it features Ransom. The production from Roc is really nice, and Flee Lord killed the first verse.

Eatin' Beijing chicken with a straight clean vixen
I'm a soldier, thought I told ya, this my 18th mission
Roc Marci' set the temp, yeah he reppin' for the pimps
We done dropped it on the 9th, we was legends by the 10th
Skill level high, on the real devils die
Heavy steel by my side, metal peel while I drive

The dude just rhymes really well. That four-syllable rhyme scheme he had going was fire. Ransom killed this shit too.

Just makin' clothing apparel
Ran flows like Van Goghs when he paint the scrolls in a chapel
The greatest rose from the gravel
You know gorilla, nigga, 'cause Donkey Kong's not a game when this 8th is holdin' a barrel

The record scratches on the outro were a nice touch as well. This is another one of my favorite tracks on the album. I think it’s dope as hell. Trim the Fat has one of my favorite beats on the project. The first verse from Flee Lord is really good, and Stove God Cook$ sounded great on the second verse. I even like the hook on this track. I’d say Flee Lord had a better performance than Cook$, but they both did a really good job. The song is dope. It’s followed by Skipping Town, which is one of the shortest tracks on the album. The production is pretty solid, and Flee Lord’s verse is good. Overall it feels a little undercooked as a song, but the rapping is good, and I like the production. It’s definitely not one of my favorite songs on the album, but I do like it to some extent. I think it’s pretty good. Track 8 is called Breezin’ in a Porsche, and it features a verse from Roc Marciano.

I think the piano-driven production is pretty good. The first verse from Flee Lord is great, and I like the hook too. Roc Marciano killed the second verse.

To be honest might rip your pockets off your shorts
The high cost of life is the driving force
Got blinders on the horse, I'm a cyborg
From all that I saw tears from my eyeballs fall
All my songs like being a fly on the wall
I'm married to the game by common law
This is a college course on how to be a solid entrepreneur

The song is really dope. The penultimate track is called First Kill. I love how dark and cold the production here sounds, and Flee Lord matched the tone of the instrumental really well.

This a lifetime high, I don't spare no friends
Try me and you'll be fiend'd out from here on in
Everybody got samples, but this is the best
If you sick then the vest watch your chin hit your chest
Noddin' off, standing up on the wall for support
You used to ball, now you snort, forgot all you was taught
I seen my own dad on his lean, it was sad
He was trying to ease the pain, hope he weavin' them tags

I really fuck with the content of this track. This is definitely the darkest song on the album, which I appreciate. I like the way the song is structured too. He’s just rapping the whole time with no hook or bridge. There’s just a quick break between the two verses. Overall, I think it’s a really dope track. The final track is called Delgado Outro, and it has my favorite beat on the project. The song is less than a minute long, but I think it’s really dope. Flee Lord’s verse is great here.

The world's back open, now we hittin' the road
It's a whole buncha pussy niggas gettin' exposed
Thought he was the bomb, but he didn't explode
Left his lungs hangin' out 'cause it ain't fit in his clothes
Ain't my decision, Lord had a vision
Stuck to the plan as I stepped up out the kitchen
Ferragamo lens look like goggles on the Benz
If it's problems, nigga holla, and them nozzles finna spin

I think the song is great. I don’t even mind the short length because everything here is so well done.

This album is great. I think this is one of the best projects Flee Lord has ever put out to be honest. The production from Roc Marciano is really good, Flee Lord’s verses are all great, and the features came through with some really impressive performances. I really don’t have any gripes with the project as a whole to be honest. I think they knocked it out of the park, and I wouldn’t mind hearing a sequel to this one. Check it out and let me know what you think. It’s really dope in my opinion.
