This extended play was released on March 24th this year. I think the last time I mentioned Onry Ozzborn on this blog was when he was featured on my favorite Ceschi album, Sans Soleil. Wait, that’s not true at all. I covered the last Dark Time Sunshine album. That project was really great. I’m definitely a big fan of him, so I was pretty excited to check this EP out. For whatever reason I haven’t really seen anyone else talking about this project. I was kind of expecting it to be a dud since it hasn’t been getting much attention, but after listening to it I decided I had to tell y’all about it because I really enjoyed it.
The project begins with a track entitled Plum Juice ♡, which features someone named Trilly. This is the only track on the project that I don’t really see myself returning to. It’s kind of a frustrating track because there are aspects of it that I really love. For example, the… Well… Honestly, everything about this song is good. The lyricism, unique flow, and production all are great. My issue with this song is the length. The song is about 70 seconds long, and it feels like it ends before it even gets started. The beat never drops, and there’s just one short verse before the song ends. It feels really scant. Again, it’s frustrating because I love what little is here. However, as a song it just feels incomplete. It’s not bad by any means, but it just lacks replay value for me. If someone played it on AUX I obviously wouldn’t be like, “turn this shit the fuck off,” but I’m not gonna be going out of my way to listen to this one again. It’s an okay song overall though. Thankfully the rest of the EP doesn’t have this issue. Track 2 is called Drip Pope Deux ♤. The production from The Gigantics, who also produced the opening track, is pretty awesome. It’s a really strange, ominous instrumental. I love the percussion, and the weird sample of that person laughing in the background during the first recital of the hook sounds pretty cool. Onry’s flow on this track is fire too. His flow is fire period. I really enjoyed the verse here.
All these doves keep crying when my flesh purple, profoundly bruised
Newsflash: top five on a list that don’t exist, I’m shrewd
The hook itself is pretty nice too. My favorite aspect of this song is just Onry’s weird flow. I feel like every syllable is meticulously placed. The song’s really dope overall. The penultimate track is called Baby Its Okay ◇, and it’s easily my favorite song on the project. The melodic production from Torbjørn is fantastic, and Onry sounds amazing over it. The poetic lyricism had me hooked.
Must cut least ten pounds in one week to be taken seriously Baby it’s okay Sift through lost and found, but stay chic, operate curiously Baby it’s okay Developed a complex As soon as fifteen minutes was stretched beyond its context They say you on next, off now, take a hike, to be continued in spite Baby it’s okay
The hook on this track is fire. There’s really nothing about this song that I don’t like. The production is fire, and Onry killed this shit, especially that last verse. I love how his flow gets more aggressive towards the very end of the song. The ending feels slightly abrupt, but that’s just a nitpick. I think this track is dope as hell. The closing song is entitled Trauma Bondage ♧, and it features production from Jack Rylands. It also has background vocals from an artist named Thirtyseven, who sounds pretty nice. The production here is very good. I like the percussion a lot. Onry’s actual rapping here is great too. His flow sounds fantastic. The lyricism had me hooked. The title of this track is a pretty good indication of what the lyrical content is about.
Introduced, met you
Us two, no clue
Paths crossed another ‘gain again
What happens there doesn’t always stay, my friend
Matter fact I hit the road immediately the next day
Both of us can’t seem to stay away from each other, no way
No damn way, fuckin’ A
The melodic hook isn’t really anything special to me, but it serves its purpose as a break between the verses. If I had to rank all the tracks on this project, this would be in the lower half, but I still like it overall. I think it’s a very good song.
This is a very good extended play. I love the production, and Onry’s rapping kept me invested throughout the entire project. I even enjoyed his rapping on the one song that I won’t be returning to a lot. There’s not a single bad track here. In fact, I don’t even think there’s a bad moment here. There are parts that I like more than others, but nothing here stood out in a particularly bad way. The opening track felt too scant, but other than that I don’t really have any gripes. Onry’s a fantastic lyricist, and he has one of the most unique flows I’ve ever heard from an MC. He sounds amazing whenever he’s rapping here. The production is pretty great too. I enjoyed all the beats here. If you’re a fan of Onry Ozzborn, definitely check this project out. It’s kind of being slept on unfortunately, but it’s certainly worth listening to. I really fuck with this one. I think it’s dope.
