Song Review | Jamal Gasol & Vic Spencer – Kansas City Smackman Vs. Vic Greenthumbs

This song was released on May 31st this year. Jamal Gasol is an artist whose name I’ve seen floating around the internet for the past couple years. I’ve never actually listened to any of his music though. I had no idea whether he was good or not before checking out this song. Obviously I’m a big fan of Vic Spencer, so that’s the reason why I decided to give this song a chance. It’s also produced by August Fanon, who is my favorite producer alive right now, so I knew I had to listen to this shit.

The smooth, melodic, sample-based production here is pretty great. I actually ended up enjoying Jamal Gasol’s performance here quite a bit too.

The haters said I'm flashy, but I had to be
My plug is really taxin' me, I'm trappin' to the obsolete, I gotta eat
Goin' on a robbin' spree, turn it to a shoppin' spree
Told all my up & comin' niggas expect a lot from me

I feel like this collaboration makes a lot of sense because their flows mesh together really well. The way they went back and forth with each other trading couplets was really awesome. Vic’s vocal delivery is a lot more energetic and higher pitched than usual. I think he sounds great here. That line about putting the lawn mower to your heart was fire. I think these guys have a whole project coming together, but I could be wrong. Jamal said some shit like “we did this tape in a day,” so that’s what leads me to believe there’s more music coming from them. I look forward to that. Anyway, this song is really dope. Check it out, and let me know what you think in the comments below.
