This song was released on June 9th this year. This is the first single from an upcoming Drumwork Music Group album. For those of you who may be unfamiliar, Drumwork Music Group is Conway the Machine’s record label. I didn’t really like his latest album, WON’T HE DO IT, although there were some tracks on it that I enjoyed. I was hoping that this new single would be a return to form, although the features had me a bit worried. I’m really not a fan of that Goose dude at all. I’ve heard a few features from SK da King, and he’s never really left much of an impression on me. Same goes for Heem of Benny the Butcher‘s Black Soprano Family. I’m really just here for the performances from Conway & Rome Streetz.
I don’t like this one. I don’t think it’s a bad song, but I’m never gonna listen to it again. I think the main reason I can’t get into it is just that the production from Mr. Authentic is really underwhelming. It’s just way too repetitive for me. I also think the hook from Goosebytheway sucks. I really just don’t like his voice and delivery. The way he pronounces shit pisses me off. He sounds really bad. He spit the first verse on this song, and it sucks. I have no idea what Conway sees in this guy. His flow is basic as hell, and his lyrics are super generic.
Had enough of the struggle, time to make it bubble
Had to get up out my feelings, get it off the muscle
Nobody givin' you shit, I had to grind
'Cause my presence, nigga, somethin' that's divine
Conway only spits 8 bars on this song, but he had some nice lines.
They still tryna further their careers, but don't ever advance
Every time Machine drop a record, it mess with they plans
BJ modified the AR, so the weapon enhanced
Young boy got the switch on the pole, you get wet if you glance
I think SK da King’s verse was solid. He rhymed well, but the actual lyrics didn’t really stand out much to me. His lyricism was definitely less elementary than that of Goose though. I actually think Heem’s verse was really good to be honest. He kinda raps exactly like Benny the Butcher, but I still enjoyed his performance. He managed to carry the same rhyme scheme throughout his entire 16 bar verse. I think Rome Streetz had the best verse on this song though.
Bums, I rose up, I used to deal with scum
Now when the money come from the label, that shit in lump sums
You older than me, but you still broke, so you my son's son
Grown up, lil nigga sent to the store on a blunt run
Crime, we did it all, we never called 911
Before I had my own, me and my homie shared one gun
A shitty Hi-Point, now it's Rugers and SIG Sauers
Stash cake in case I catch a case to pay for the lawyer
The song ends really abruptly. It feels kinda awkward. It’s only four minutes, so it’s not like they couldn’t have extended the outro a bit more. That’s definitely just a nitpick though. Overall, I think the song is very mediocre. The verses range from wack to really good. If I had to rank all of them from worst to best, I would say Goose, then SK da King, then Conway, then Heem, and then Rome Streetz. It’s not a good sign that the two non-Drumwork artists were the best part of the song. Goose is the only one who I would say was actually wack on this song though. SK & Conway were just okay. Heem & Rome were dope. If the production was really good then I might’ve enjoyed this song more, but it unfortunately isn’t, so I’m never gonna listen to this again. I hope the rest of the material on the upcoming Drumwork album is better because this track left a lot to be desired. Give it a listen and let me know what you think in the comments below. You might enjoy it more than I did.
