Album Review | Ty Farris – No Cosign Just Cocaine 5: The Final Sniff

This album was released on February 17th this year. I first started listening to Ty Farris when he dropped No Cosign Just Cocaine 3, which I thought was amazing. He’s gone on to release a plethora of projects since then, and all of them have been dope. No Cosign Just Cocaine 3 is still my favorite project that I’ve heard from him, but every single release has the potential to surpass it, which is why this fifth entry in the series is one of my most anticipated albums of the year. The production credits and features look awesome, so I think I’m gonna love this record.

The intro is called 80’s Cocaine, and it’s performed by Big Rube of Dungeon Family. The production from GRAYMATTER is really pretty and soulful. I think the beat is pretty awesome. I always love hearing Rube’s Spoken Word performances. It’s really cool that Ty got him for this project.

The start of a new fusion to promote more unity
Not position our community to make choices that lead to division
Because the seeds we decide to sow in our souls is our decision
The soil of our consciousness our own destiny to manifest
Allowing us to wield power enough to yield

The internal rhymes are really nice. This is a dope way to start the project. I fuck with it. The first actual song by Ty Farris is called The Coca Leaf, and it’s produced by Clypto. The instrumental here is pretty solid, but it’s far from my favorite on the album. It’s cool though. I definitely like it to some extent. The minimalistic approach to the percussion is pretty nice. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a verse from Ty Farris that isn’t dope, so it comes as no surprise that he murdered this song.

Y'all Walmart suspicious, I'm talking clothing wise
If you ever been there after midnight, you know the vibes
When I write the pen move by itself and I close my eyes
Now close your eyes and listen with an open mind

This song isn’t quite a highlight for me, but I definitely enjoyed it a lot. The beat just gets kind of old by the time the track’s over. I kinda wish it was more detailed or switched up at some point. I do like it to some extent though. The main appeal of this song is just the verse from Ty Farris. He killed this shit. The song’s dope. It’s followed by the first highlight, which is called We Never Backing Down. The production from Fonkstarr is pretty goddamn awesome. I love this beat. I’d go so far as to say it’s one of my favorite beats of the year. Ty Farris absolutely slaughtered the opening verse.

Razor sharp, bravest heart, aim and spark
Dialogue was dangerous thoughts
I paint dark and gave y'all the pain for parts
Blood stains and chalk right where the kids playin' hopscotch
Life's a basketball game and some days you get your shot blocked
Still persevere, my homies thought I had a cursed career
Blackballed, still on Shade 45 and never asked Paul

The hook isn’t particularly notable, but it serves its purpose as a break between the verses well enough. The second verse is performed by Jae Skeese, and he sounds really good. I definitely think Ty Farris is the better MC, but Jae held his own. Overall, I think this song is dope as hell. The production is amazing, and Ty slaughtered the opening verse. Track 4 is called Alejandro Sosa, and it’s got a really awesome beat from Trox. Once again, Ty Farris rhymed his ass off. I love that line about how drug addiction program members listen to him.

Don't heat check my reflex with street debts
If you owe tellin' me no, felons I know guns singin' like Keith Sweat
New Jack City wet and they squeeze techs
Used to throw bullets now I'm in front of a mic, I'm followin' Drew Brees steps

Much like with the preceding track, the hook just serves as a decent break between the verses. It’s not particularly catchy or anything, but it doesn’t need to be. The second verse on this song is even better than the first one in my opinion.

I might be
Fresh blood stains on Nikes was nightly
Takin' L's at the gun smoke is likely
Ex wifey feisty, she tried to knife me
I politely left her rightfully with the Jerry Rice speed
Retro 4s with the face of a young Spike Lee
Need my bank account to be the same number as my IP
Was in the spot watchin' reruns, Law & Order with Ice-T

This shit is fire. The song’s dope as hell. It’s followed by Dean Smith, which features production from The Standouts. The sample-based beat here is really melodic and pretty. Once again, I appreciate the minimalistic approach to the percussion. As always, Ty murdered the first verse here.

Gucci jacket, but I never be in that bougie bracket
Fools in fabrics normally lose to young goons with ratchets
I made profits exploiting people with pookie habits
And I still move with two clips, I ain't lose my malice
They'll find your body somewhere lookin' like you drooling maggots
Handguns with a few attachments

The second verse is just as good too. This isn’t a highlight on the album for me, but the rapping is too good for me to not fuck with it. I think the repetitive beat gets kind of old by the time the track ends, but it’s not bad enough to ruin the song. I think this shit is dope. The following track is called Dope Speak 4 Itself, and this is a major highlight for me. It features J. Arrr & Vega7 the Ronin, as well as production from Stu Bangas. I think this is one of the best beats I’ve heard from Stu Bangas in a long ass time. This instrumental is amazing. Ty Farris of course rhymed his ass off on the first verse. The second verse from J. Arrr was a lot better than I was expecting it to be honestly. I’ve always liked J. Arrr as a rapper, but for some reason I wasn’t expecting him to match Ty & Vega7’s skills. Now that I think about it, I don’t know why. He frequently holds his own alongside Ransom, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that he would perform well here. I think I just haven’t been as excited about him lately because I’m not crazy about his solo work. This verse really reignited my interest in him though. He rhymed his ass off here. The closing verse from Vega7 the Ronin was of course phenomenal. I think this song has some of the best featured verses I’ve heard all year. They really came through for Ty on this one. The rapping is incredible. This is one of my favorite songs of the year. I think it’s dope as fuck. Same goes for the following track, The Thoughts of Ghost. This one’s produced by Big Ghost Ltd., and the beat is fucking awesome. It’s the darkest, most ominous instrumental on the album. I love it. Ty Farris’ rapping over it is absolute flames too.

I rock a mental vest, probably should invest in a metal turtleneck
They stabbin' backs and slittin' throats tryna earn respect
Any nigga from your curb's a threat
I been a hot boy back when Lil Wayne wasn't even cursin' yet

The verses are fire, and I even love the hook on this track. The song’s got a very straightforward structure. There’s just two verses and a hook. It’s all fantastic though. I don’t have any gripes with this one. Again, this is one of my favorite songs of the year. I think this shit is amazing. Track 8 is called The Twilight Zone, and it features an artist with whom I was previously unfamiliar named Flames Dot Malik. I really enjoyed his performance on the opening verse. His vocal delivery sounds great to me. He actually kinda reminds me of DMX of all people. They don’t rap the same way at all though. It’s just their voices that kinda sound similar. I really like Flames’ flow here. His verse is awesome. The second verse from Ty is amazing.

My clientele was caucasian
They say the coke make 'em feel reincarnated
They hop in the car shakin', now they hearts racin'
A few sniffs later they feel invincible
I used to skip science class, but still found chemistry with these chemicals
No holy water, but I'm still performing miracles
Turn tough guys spiritual when they sittin' in that critical
When it come to the D, I'm respected like Tom Thibodeau

I actually think this is one of Ty’s best performances on the whole album, which is saying a lot. The instrumental from Wino Willy is pretty fantastic too. This song honestly grew on me. I already loved it on my first listen, but now I love it even more. It’s another one of my favorite songs of the year. I think it’s dope as fuck. Track 9 is called Underestimate Me, and it’s produced by Trox. I really love the gritty, yet melodic instrumental on this track. As always, Ty Farris murdered this shit.

No look passes, now they praise me like the pastor readin' chapters
Illegal matters, glad I'm done thinkin' backwards
But it's blasphemous you don't think I leave bastards with bleeding bladders
This a combination of confidence and conviction
I promise it made predictions, I conquered the competition
Complements of my conditions, that old EP was real ballin', rhymin up in the kitchen

I could listen to this dude rhyme forever, man. He sounds so good. I even like the simplistic hook on this track. I don’t have any gripes with this one. It’s dope as hell. It’s followed by a posse cut called The Most Feared Threat. This one features Pro Dillinger, Mickey Diamond, and Snotty. They’re all members of the Umbrella Collective, who I’ve never written about. Those guys are really dope though. Check them out if you’re not familiar. Mickey Diamond in particular is hella prolific. I recommend his Gucci Ghost albums with Big Ghost Ltd. Pro Dillinger is probably my favorite rapper in the group. His voice kinda reminds me of Flee Lord, but I think he’s a better rapper than him. Snotty is the only rapper on this song who I’ve never heard a project from, but he impressed me here, so I’m gonna keep an eye out for future work from him. Anyway, the first verse from Pro Dillinger is fantastic. I love the beat from Finn on this song too. It’s really ethereal sounding. I wouldn’t have expected these guys to choose a beat like this, but they sound amazing over it. The second verse from Mickey Diamond is awesome.

I try to make every verse imperative
They treat me like a terrorist, plot & twist the narrative
I'm watchin' with my third eye, spottin' different characters
If Rap was a bitch in real life, I'd probably marry her

The “on the westside with a gun like I’m Daringer” line was nice too. That line seems so simple that I’m surprised I’ve never heard anyone say it until now. It’s fire though. Snotty sounded great on the third verse, and Ty Farris killed the last one. He definitely had my favorite verse, but they all sounded really good on this song. This is another one of my favorite songs of the year. It’s probably the best posse cut I’ve heard in 2023. I love it. The following track is another major highlight called Critically Acclaimed.

This might be the best song on the album. The rich production from Bishop is really amazing. This is probably my favorite beat on the project. Needless to say, the rapping from Ty over it is amazing.

If you only send half for that verse, that purchase pending
Imagine in San Diego really seems like the perfect ending
Heard your last album and let me say it's not worth me recommending
No reckless spending, a business mogul, orders sendin' global
I leave the booth like Chernobyl, ask my friends that's local
Forced to top spot, picture a pit bull with raw hide
I'm never lettin' go, runnin' away with it like Pharcyde

I don’t know who I’m more impressed by between Bishop & Ty Farris. They both put their ass into this song. This shit is fire. This song has one of my favorite beats of the year. It’s just one of the best songs I’ve heard this year overall. I think it’s incredible. Track 12 is called Brown Bags Over Revolvers, and it features production from Wino Willy as well as a verse from Daniel Son. Once again, the production here is amazing. The first verse from Ty is fire too.

Last dude I punched left the scene with nerve damage
Got weapons in storage like we ready to start a purge challenge
No cosign, just the ink in this pen
One of the best, Sammy Sosa before he bleachin' his skin

Daniel Son’s verse was crazy too. That line about how the fentanyl made a dude fall asleep was fire. This song honestly grew on me with repeat listens. The production and rapping are just so good that I can’t help but call this another one of the best songs of the year. I love this shit. The song’s dope as fuck. The penultimate track is entitled Never Lose Respect, and it has production from Darius Lazar. The soulful, sample based beat is really fantastic. I love this instrumental. I also loved the reference to Clayton Bigsby from Ty. I like the hook on this track, but it’s really the production and actual verses that make this song worth returning to. Ty killed this shit. I think the song’s dope as hell. The closing track is called The Most High, and it’s produced by Bozack Morris. I think the beat grew on me with repeat listens. I like the instrumental a lot more now than I did when I first heard this album. Not that I ever thought it was bad. I just didn’t love it, ya know? Anyway, this song probably has my favorite hook on the album, which isn’t really saying much since the hooks aren’t really the selling point, but still. I like this one a lot. The first verse on this track is great, and the second one is even better.

Wired different, my vision kinda complex
I profit from patience, clearly my time is the best
Just know in a jungle violence is the only thing lions respect
Death's an honor if it's something I'm trying to protect

This isn’t really a highlight for me on the album, but I still really enjoyed it. I think it’s a dope song.

This album is amazing. I think this is the best project I’ve ever heard from Ty Farris. He was already a beast on the microphone before, but I think the main reason I enjoyed this one more than his other releases is just that the production is absolutely stellar. Damn near every beat on this project is superb. The features are all fire too. There’s really nothing about this album that stands out in an off-putting way. Ty Farris is one of the best rappers alive in my opinion, and it’s because of releases like this. He knocked this shit outta the park. This is a must-listen album of 2023 for fans of lyrical Hip Hop. It’s definitely one of my favorite albums of the year. I can’t praise it enough. Do not sleep on this shit. It’s dope as fuck.
