Song Review | MIKE – Red Jacket 6

This single was released on June 14th this year. I unfortunately didn’t really care for MIKE‘s latest project, Beware of the Monkey, which dropped this past December, so I’m hoping that this new song here is better. I think I might just be getting tired of his style since he pretty much does the same thing on every album. I mostly just didn’t care for the production. Don’t get me wrong; the album wasn’t bad at all. It was just okay to me. I liked a handful of songs, but didn’t love any of them. Anyway, I’m not sure who produced this new track. I’m just gonna assume the beat was done by DJ Blackpower, but I could be wrong. If anyone can confirm the production credits in the comments below that would be much appreciated. It’s just over a minute and a half long, so I kinda feel like I know how it’s gonna be structured. I’m expecting to just hear one quick verse with no hook. The quality of this song is really gonna depend on how good the beat is because I know the verse is gonna be dope.

Once this song was over, I just felt really underwhelmed. Nothing about this track really stands out in a good way to me. I’m really not into Vaporwave at all, so the production wasn’t particularly enjoyable to me. The rapping from MIKE wasn’t as good as I was expecting it to be either. I mean, maybe I shouldn’t say that. My biggest issue with his rapping is just his enunciation. I can barely understand what he’s saying because he’s almost mumbling. He’s not rapping clearly at all. It sounds like he was either drunk or high out of his mind when he recorded this. His flow was at least pretty bouncy though. My prediction about the song structure was right by the way. There’s just one verse here with no hook or bridge. I think that if this song was more fleshed out I might have enjoyed it more, but as it is I think it’s really mediocre. Check it out and let me know what you think of it in the comments below.
