Song Review | DrxQuinnx – Gorgeous

This song was released on June 27th this year. DrxQuinnx is an artist from Chicago who I first heard rapping alongside Denmark Vessey & Vic Spencer over an Earl Sweatshirt beat. That was back in 2018, and he’s been on my radar ever since then. He’s also the first artist I ever did a video interview with, so that’s pretty cool. Check that shit out if you haven’t yet. Anyway, I didn’t really go into this new single with any expectations. I mean, I probably had a feeling that I would enjoy it to some extent, but I wasn’t really sure what it would sound like. All I knew was that it was completely self-produced.

The first aspect of this song that really stood out to me was just his flow. It’s kind of fast-paced, and really bouncy. It gives me the coveted involuntary head nod every time it starts. I kinda wish the lyrics were posted online because it’s kind of difficult to make out what’s being said a lot of the time, but I can make out bits and pieces of the verse. I’m sure the lyricism will become more clear with a lot more listens. Anyway, the production here is fire. It utilizes a sample that I’ve heard a few times before. I typically am not a fan of hearing samples that I’ve heard before in new songs, but this one in particular sounds great every time I hear it. I also just think that this is probably the best flip of that sample that I’ve heard. This shit sounds great. The hook at the end of this track was a nice touch too. The song’s under two minutes long, but it doesn’t sound too scant. The flow on the verse is really nice, and I love the beat. Again, I likely would’ve enjoyed it even more if I had the lyrics, but sonically this song is great. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below. I think it’s dope.
