Song Review | TreaZon – Corners (feat. Sylvan Lacue)

This song was released on May 6th this year. When this song was announced on April 22nd, I was absolutely ecstatic. I first discovered TreaZon when he was featured on the Prone to Sin interlude on Sylvan LaCue‘s Searching Sylvan project, which is my favorite mixtape of all time. I wasn’t really expecting this latest collaboration though because from what I understand they had a falling out at some point. I guess they’ve rekindled their relationship, and now we have this latest track, which is their first song together in over five years. I love both of these guys quite a bit, so seeing this song made me super happy. I knew I was gonna fuck with this track, and it did not disappoint at all.

As soon as the song starts, TreaZon jumps directly into the sung hook, which is actually really fantastic. His vocals sound pretty good, and the melody itself is really catchy. It honestly grew on me a lot. I was kind of indifferent towards it at first because I was more interested in the actual rapping, but I grew to love it after giving the song multiple listens. I actually think it’s one of the best hooks I’ve heard from TreaZon. The production kinda sounds like something I could’ve heard on a TDE project when they were in their prime in the mid-2010s. That’s a great thing. I love this beat. Musically, every element of this song is great to me. The hook and instrumental are stellar. The rapping is of course what really draws me in though. The opening verse from TreaZon is really nice, and the second one is even better. The rhymes are great, and his flow and vocal delivery sound as good as ever. Needless to say, the final verse from Sylvan is absolutely outstanding. His writing here is phenomenal.

Something was said to certain extents, what's the substance?
Knew you was healing, makin' adjustments
Just didn't think in the process I'd be someone you don't fuck with
I could've took it with grace had you told me instead of duckin'
It's all in divine timing, had to stop lying to self and get right to the vine
Allow what's crossing expectations brought me to question my mind
Self love practices, inclination was to blame myself
Despite your attentions and the results I had to gain with help
All in review, I hope everything is as good as perceived
And all your dreams achieved give you the love and affection you need
Maybe cutting ties with me was better for you and your life
I'll probably always miss a part of what our friendship brought to light
But any dog of mine wouldn't move how you moved
Guess it's goodbye and salutations, we all must improve
I made a promise to myself that I'd protect my truth
The hardest part is honoring what you said you would do

It’s honestly one of my favorite verses that I’ve heard all year. This track is definitely going into my “Best Features of 2024” playlist. Overall, this is one of my favorite songs of the year. There’s really nothing about it that I don’t like. Every verse is enjoyable, the production is super good, and the hook is excellent. The song’s dope as fuck. Give it a listen and let me know what you think in the comment section below. Sidenote: Sylvan was recently diagnosed with pulmonary cancer.
