This latest single from VEGA! was released on June 20th this year, and it’s been in heavy rotation for me ever since. I believe this is the second official single from VEGA GENESIS III, which is pretty much my most anticipated album of 2025 right now. Shoutout to Clipse too though. I feel like there’s another big upcoming release that I’m forgetting. Oh, Sleep Sinatra is dropping his next collab album with August Fanon this year I think. That should be fire. I’ve been looking forward to Gen3 ever since the second one dropped at the beginning of 2023 though, so there’s a lotta hype behind it personally. I enjoyed the WWV & GARCIA VEGA tapes, but VEGA Genesis 3 is most likely gonna be year-end list material.

This song is produced by dreamawake, and they did an excellent job. I love this beat. It sounds like a 16-bit video game soundtrack, which fits in with the VEGA Genesis theme. VEGA!’s melodic flow over it sounds really great too. The hook is catchy as hell.

The humor of VEGA! is something I can’t emphasize enough. It’s a major part of the appeal for me. I find it really fascinating how he’s able to turn something serious—in this case, hardcore drug addiction—into a complete fucking joke. The way he glorifies it in such an exaggerated way is just really silly to me. He’s far from the only rapper to glorify drugs, but the way he does it is so ridiculously over the top that I can’t help but crack a smile when I hear it. This song in particular isn’t really one of the most humorous tracks I’ve heard from him, but that could just be because I’ve only listened to it sober. If I listen to this while faded I’ll probably laugh more. To my sober mind, the funniest moment is when he says this…

I also like the line about his opps eating artillery. That’s hard. The song’s dope as hell. VEGA! also dropped a single called WOW! a few weeks prior to WE OUTSIDE! It’s a really dope song, so be sure to check that out as well. This latest single is the better track, but both of them have me hella excited for Gen3. I can’t wait.
