EP Review | LORD BYRON – Behold, It’s Us

This EP was released on March 16th this year. This is the second of three EPs LORD BYRON dropped in March. I was completely unfamiliar with who he was before checking out the first one, and I surprisingly ended up really enjoying it, so I’m looking forward to this one. Just like with the previous one, it’s entirely produced by Ben Hixon. It’ll be interesting if this project is actually different from the previous one, but I’m expecting more of the same, which is fine. I think this is gonna be another great EP. Hopefully I’m not wrong.

1. Ateolate

Oooh shit. This beat is really dark, and the percussion is pretty hard hitting. LORD BYRON has kind of a weird vocal effect on his voice. His vocals sound really tinny. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I would’ve preferred if his voice just sounded regular. It kinda makes the lyrics hard to understand. I know he’s saying something about “free throws” and “cheat codes” on the hook. I can’t really make out a lot of the other lyrics. I hope the entire project isn’t like this. I’m still enjoying the song though. His flow sounds good. The first verse was fine. The second one was better in my opinion. The way he was flowing was really cool. I like this song. Obviously I don’t love it as much as I wanted to, but it’s dope. It’s probably the worst song I’ve heard from LORD BYRON so far, but I still like it. This is a good song to me.

2. Alive

The beat on this track is dope as hell. The way Ben Hixon flipped that sample is pretty nice. I think he’s got a pretty cool style of production. He mixes lo-fi sample based beats with trap style percussion. The first verse on this track is pretty good.

Fidgeting through my different emotions while I decay
Pretty nigga with bitches, but need ’em further away

The hook where he says he was trying to make himself cry at a funeral was cool too. I definitely like this track a lot more than the previous one. He doesn’t have that effect on his vocals. The second verse was good. I like this song. I don’t actually have any major gripes with it. This shit is dope to me.

3. Magic

This is definitely my favorite track on this project so far. The shit I said about lo-fi production with trap percussion certainly applies to this instrumental. I really like LORD BYRON’s flow on this track a lot too, especially when the beat drops. The hook is really catchy. I like this song for the same reason I liked Damn so much, which was my favorite track from the 33 EP. He’s just got a really catchy, bouncy flow over this beat. The first verse wasn’t anything special lyrically, but it sounded really good. I think his flow on the second verse is even better though. Overall I really like this song. I don’t really have any issues with it. It’s not super impressive lyrically, but I really like the way he was flowing over this beat. This shit is dope af.

4. Green Watch

I think I like this track even more than the previous one. The beat is dope as hell. It’s like a chill lo-fi beat with some really nice, bouncy percussion. BYRON’s flow is great on this track too. I feel like this song would be incredible if I was high. I mean, that could be said about a lot of songs I guess. Most of what I said about the previous track could be said about this one. The main reason I like it is because of Byron’s flow. The production is also really good too though. The lyrics are pretty simplistic.

I just been watching the ass on your bitch
She say I’m nasty, I act like a pimp
Walk in the mall and she grab on my dick

Honestly the second verse kinda sounds like something Lil Wayne would write. He sounded good though. I actually like this track a lot. This is my favorite song on the project so far. I still think Damn is my favorite song from him, but this is probably number two now. This shit is dope af.

5. Bags

The previous track segues into this one pretty nicely. This beat is dope. Byron’s voice has another weird vocal effect, but it’s not the same one that he used on the first track. This one doesn’t sound as bad. I still could’ve done without it though. His vocals aren’t really mixed very well. It’s kinda hard to hear what he’s saying. I like his flow though. He said some shit about how “you need some air pods.”

The diamonds is yellow like corn on the cob.

I definitely enjoyed this song to some extent, but it could be better. The hook is fine. There’s only one verse, and it’s nothing special. The production is cool. I like this track. It’s definitely far from my favorite though.

6. Timeless

This beat is pretty dope. In terms of LORD BYRON’s actual rapping, this is probably the best song on the whole project. He has a really nice flow, and he’s actually saying something interesting. He actually killed this shit. He sounds way more aggressive on this track than he usually does. Damn. This might actually be my favorite track. I really like the way it’s structured too. He’s just rapping the whole time. It’s just one verse with no hook or bridge or anything like that. I don’t have any issues with this one. This shit is dope af.

This is another great EP. Overall, I feel pretty much the same way about this one as I did about the previous one. I feel like that one was more consistent, and this one has lower lows and higher highs. However, as a whole I feel the same about both of them. Again, I’m really glad I decided to check this guy out because I haven’t heard a bad song yet. I liked every song on this project. I’m really looking forward to the final one he dropped now. This shit is dope.
