Don’t Sleep | KILLVONGARD – I Think I’ve Lost It.

Don’t sleep on this new debut album from KILLVONGARD. I wasn’t familiar with this artist at all prior to hearing the record, but I chose to give it a listen because there’s a Specter Gadget placement on the first track. I pretty much know nothing about this artist, but I really enjoyed this album, so I had to tell y’all about it.

This isn’t really a full review, so I’m not gonna talk about every single track like I usually do. It should be noted that there’s not a single track here that I don’t think is dope though. Every single song was really entertaining to me, including the last track, point b, which is just an instrumental. My favorite track is easily the state of physical media and my growing concerns. The main aspect of this song that made it stand out so much to me is just KILL’s rapping performance. From a technical perspective, he really knocked this song out of the park. His flow and breath control on this track are fantastic. The second verse on this track is kind of mind-blowing to me. Not only because of his mesmerizing flow, but also because of his emotional vocal delivery. It’s a really captivating performance. The second verse is definitely my favorite moment on the whole album honestly.

The many facets of a glutton
I can't taste what I can't stomach
I can't ache, then I can't function
I can't make, then I can't love
And I can't wait 'til I'm above it all
Makin' that whatever assumption
But it's a multi-pronged
However many entendre, not religious
If I was maybe I'd have a reason to stop
Or keep running at full tilt
Guilt for breakfast, be bulimic
Shadow keep me emetophobic
Scratch the message into the bottom of the nook
In the corner of your mansion
Where the sun illuminates the floating dust
The invocation of a cancer

He murdered this track. The song is dope as hell, and I honestly love it more and more every time I listen to it.

This album is great. It was pretty easy for me to choose a favorite track, but I struggled choosing a least favorite track just because there aren’t any songs that I even remotely dislike. I’m sold on KILLVONGARD as an artist. He’s a fantastic writer, and he’s got a really good voice for rapping too. I’m also very impressed by his production. The beat from Specter Gadget is really dope, but the rest of the tracks that KILLVONGARD produced himself are just as good. This project is short and sweet too. It’s just under 25 minutes, and most of the songs are under 3 minutes long, so it’s a really quick and easy listen. This is KILLVONGARD’s debut album, but he doesn’t sound like a beginner at all. It sounds like he’s been rapping and producing for a long time, so I’m not really sure how he’s never put out a project before. Maybe I’m mistaken. Maybe he’s one of those rappers that just does a shit ton of live performances but never really recorded that much music. I don’t know. I have no idea what I’m talking about right now. This shit is great though. I feel like if you’re generally into the stuff that Rhymesayers Entertainment puts out then you’ll probably dig this. I’m lovin’ it. Don’t sleep on it.
