Mixtape Review | 6ix9ine – DAY69: Graduation Day

This tape was released on April 10th. All I know about 6ix9ine is that he’s into some R. Kelly type shit. Not that he pisses on people—although I wouldn’t be surprised—but he apparently fucks teenagers. I think that’s why he’s in trouble. I don’t know for sure. Lemme double check… Yup. Allegations of pedophilia. Yikes. I guess one thing I’ve learned is to expect anything out of the music business. A lot of talented people are into some really fucked up things, but that’s neither here nor there. This project is the deluxe edition of the original DAY69 mixtape, which came out on February 20th. I gotta say, that cover art is very well done. I love colorful art. I’m not sure what 6ix9ine’s ethnicity is, so I’m not sure if I should be okay with him using the N word or not. He doesn’t look like he should be able to say it, but a lot of people would probably say the same thing about me, so I’m not gonna be the one who decides.

BILLY produced by Beat Menace

MOOKY produced by Flamm
GUMMO Remix featuring Offset produced by Pi’erre Bourne
CHOCOLATÉ produced by Flamm
GOTTI produced by Flamm

The tape starts with 6ix9ine yelling at the top of his lungs about getting his dick licked and murdering people. The hook is annoying as fuck. The production is the only saving grace.

GUMMO

Pi’erre Bourne’s work on Gummo is phenomenal. The hook is nice too. I don’t really like Drill Music like that, but I can’t deny the catchiness. Gummo is hard as bricks. Rondo is a bit too fast paced for me. I’m not really feelin’ the hook from Tory, and Young Thug’s verse was terrible. By the time I reached track 4 I was exhausted from hearing 6ix9ine scream in my ear.

The production on KEKE is nice, but 6ix9ine is an incredibly irritating MC. I was surprised to hear Fetty Wap again. I hadn’t heard his weird ass voice in years. Kinda wish it stayed that way. A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s verse was tolerable. 6ix9ine’s flow on 93 was actually kinda nice, but the loud ass synths along with his screaming make it unbearable sonically. DOOWEE might actually be the worst song I’ve heard all year. I felt like I was listening to a meme in the form of a song.

Koncept P put his ass in that KOODA beat. Charlamagne tha God compared 6ix9ine’s style to Sticky Fingaz, which I can see. It’s annoying as fuck hearing him yell SCUUUM GAAANG at the beginning of every track though. By the time I reached BUBA, I’d already decided that this tape is just a collection of dope beats ruined by an ignorant, rainbow haired gangsta. He thankfully kept it short though; the project is only half an hour long. MOOKY is pure cacophony. I would have to be so fucking drunk to enjoy this shit. Offset’s verse on the GUMMO remix was a welcome change. The reverberating vocals on CHOCOLATÉ are fucking God awful. Again, the production was fire, but 6ix9ine ruined it. The bonus track, GOTTI, was the one different sounding song stylistically. He’s thankfully not screaming at the top of his lungs, but the melodic vocals are still pretty terrible.

This shit is bad. As I said earlier, the one decent factor is the production, but most of these beats were ruined by 6ix9ine’s obnoxious screaming. The only tolerable songs are GUMMO and its remix. 6ix9ine has a style that works for him I guess, but I’m gonna be sure to steer clear of his music in the future because this shit is wack af.

Favorite Song: GUMMO Remix
Least Favorite Song: DOOWEE
